Committee meeting minutes for 28th April 2010

Venue: Blacktown Sports Club
Meeting opened: 4.10pm
Present: Jenny Scheffers, Colleen Blancato, Shelley Napper, Belinda Doyle, Honor White, Jan Poona, Sue Burke, Sue Pitt, Lee Arundel, Lorraine Baxter, Ian McLean, Isabelle Cumberland and Michele Young.
Apologies: Cathie Cattermole and Ellen King.

General Discussion
Jenny
• Due to personal reasons, Ellen King (Blaxland H.S) has resigned from the committee.
• Thank you to Honor for hosting the social Afternoon Tea on the 3rd March at Rooty Hill HS. A successful event attended by approximately 25 TLs.

Discussion re Term 4 Professional Learning Day – Thursday 18th November 2010
Presenter – Ross Todd
 Venue – Sebel Parramatta
 Accommodate 120 delegates
 At present, no group has booked Ross for Friday to share the cost. We have enough money to cover the event if needed.
 $500 deposit has already been paid
 Unlikely that Lee FitzGerald will be available to present in the afternoon session – as yet no reply from the Principal of Loreto College
 Advertise this event at the Term 2 PD day
 Promote available seats to our district first, then to others if necessary
 Showbags for delegates – include a book (Scholastic 20 books for $20?)
 Sponsors – Syba Signs (not a paying sponsor) plus three others.
 Sponsors display their product – no spiel – morning tea and lunch provided for one representative.

Responsibilities
 Jenny – investigate possible contacts who could present practical examples of Guided Enquiry for the afternoon session
 Jenny – request an itemised account from Syba Signs for Ross Todd’s seminar
 Jenny – approach Syba Signs regarding the donation of pens for show bags and two lucky door
prizes
 Sue – organise three sponsors for the day
 Sue – approach sponsors to donate show bags.

Discussion re Term 2 Professional Learning Day – Tuesday 1st June 2010
 Venue – Greystanes High School
Teacher Librarian – Bronwyn Jackson & Charlene Gordon
Cost – $30
 26 registrations to date
 Committee to arrive 7:30 – 7:45am
 Jenny has visited the school and confirmed arrangements with Bronwyn. The Library has a large central space and two computer rooms outside the Library which will be used for the workshops.
 Catering organised by Bronwyn – $20 per head
 Bronwyn has ordered a word wall (vinyl lettering) from Syba Signs which will be completed in time for the PL day – a great promotional opportunity for Syba Signs. Syba Signs flyers will be distributed on the day in return for a $50 lucky door prize.

Workshop B: Cathy Sly (Assistant Editor School Libraries and Information Literacy Unit) – What, why and how of graphic novels
Workshop C: Chris Robertson (Centre for Learning Innovation) – Resources to support the DER – NSW laptop rollout and Connected Classrooms
 Tristan Bancks (author).

Responsibilities Lee – organise workshop preferences
 Michele – organise folders for delegates and photocopy Agenda, Ross Todd flyer and Evaluation Form
 Honor – organise certificates for delegates
 Belinda – organise gifts for the two hosts, three presenters, Colleen Foley and Paul MacDonald.
Liaise with Jenny regarding the purchase of engraved wine glasses.
 Jenny – change Agenda for Workshop C to read ‘resources to support the DER – NSW laptop rollout and connected classrooms’
 Jenny – organise flyer to advertise Term 4 Professional Learning Day
 Colleen – organise the online registration of the Term 2 and Term 4 meetings.
